Darkarta - A Broken Heart's Quest (Collector's Edition)

Of love & other demons

Being a HOG (Hidden Object Games) enthusiast ever since I discovered their existence, I opted for the Collector's Edition of Darkarta: A Broken Heart's Quest, which includes the soundtrack and a bonus adventure (also offered as separate DLCs).

I first took the title as an allusion to the Dark Arts, but Darkarta turned out to be the actual name of a mythical/legendary figure in the game's universe. Mythology plays a crucial part in its plot, as the main characters, living in the modern age, are directly but unknowingly connected to an arcane curse and a story of eternal - though condemned - love.

Borrowing from India's rich mythological background and traditions, Darkarta spins a charming, touching tale with dark supernatural overtones, beautifully illustrated with vivid colors and elaborate designs that reflect its intriguing amalgam of cultural elements and references. Stunning visual aesthetics is one of the game's major assets, while the playing mechanics are straightforward and user-friendly.

Puzzles are kept within the range of satisfyingly challenging, with the option to switch to "Match 3" mini-games. Morphing objects and "memories" can also be collected as bonus items. Additionally, the game features trading cards and a total of 40 achievements.

The Collector's Edition contains lovely concept art and wallpapers, accessible from the Extras option in the game's menu.

A special mention for the soundtrack, where both incidental sounds/effects and background music are of cinematic feel and quality. Playing the game with headphones is highly recommended.
