Arne Pahlke: Suchen

Another face of Arne Pahlke

First of all, the cover is wonderful - both the composition and the colours set perfectly the mood for what is about to ensue... And what ensues is one more panorama of Arne Pahlke's familiar themes and stylistic explorations - this time with more emphasis on the voice and the acoustic arrangements, relying on guitars and the discreet presence of virtual instruments for the most part.

Zukunft wir kommen, a beautiful ballad with an addictive rhythm, is a captivating introduction to your musical journey, followed by the sarcastic libel of Keine Frauen - which makes me think that a woman must have done something horrible to you! But I am a girl who plays Duke Nukem fanatically, so I forgive you and keep smiling... and a few titles later I find myself immersed in the dark, heart-rending beauty of Zauberfrau aus dem Maerchenland and you are completely forgiven.

I loved the evil humor in George for President and the chilling melodiousness of Auf dem Meeresgrund and Killing fall out. Old Dream Child is haunting in its almost childlike simplicity and purity of form...

For me, you are a poet above and beyond everything - your prose is poetry and your music is poetry as well. Thank you for the pleasant surprise of this album, which reveals one more intriguing side of your creativity.

NOTE: This album is no longer available on Jamendo, but may still be freely downloadable from The Jamendo Albums Collection @ Archive.org.
